The chief minister of Himachal Pradesh Virbhadra Singh said that several schemes of diversification and expansion of cooperative societies are under consideration in the state.
These initiatives would be focused on dairy development and employment generating activities at various places across the state. Cooperative societies would also be involved in producing and marketing of flowers, vegetables and a range of therapeutic herbal products.
In addition, cooperative societies would be used to promote tourism and provided with modern technological facilities to be able to process and package products noted Mr. Singh. A large number of top bureaucrats and functionaries of cooperatives attended the meeting.
The Chief Minister also added that there are thousands of cooperative bodies working in the state and their contributions could barely be underestimated. He was addressing an official meeting held by the department of cooperation at Shimla.
Primary cooperative societies, urban cooperative banks and other cooperative organisations are rendering invaluable services through their umpteen activities to the ordinary people in the state and their transactions involve thousands of crore of rupees, said the chief minister.
