Cooperative model to help Vidarbha out

Realization is dawning slowly but surely that cooperative model of economy may usher in an era of prosperity for the mankind. Tired of failed attempts, Maharashtra cooperative minister Harshwardhan Patil has said the cooperative model would be implemented in a big way to pull people out of poverty in the Vidarbha region.

An action plan that is on the anvil would help the sector in diffusing itself through developing sugar, dairy and cotton grinning and processing activities, the minister claimed while addressing the media in Nagpur.

According to the minister, the policy is likely to be ready soon. However, besides the dept of cooperation, as it would be the complex of various govt. departments involved in the process, this may take a little more time, Mr. Patil added.

The new policy would be aimed at reviving the ailing cooperative sugar units, setting up cotton mills and restoring some of the district central cooperative banks to their former health, the minister said.

Mr. Patil informed Mother Dairy would soon set up its units in Nagpur and begin spreading the message of cooperation in dairy business in Vidarbha region.

A slew of awareness raising programs are already underway in this part of the state to acquaint people with the newly amended Maharashtra cooperative societies Act, the minister said.
