Cooperators of the country joined rest of the citizens across India in mourning the passing of Dr. Manmohan Singh, former Prime Minister of India, who breathed his last at the age of 92. Renowned as a brilliant economist, reformist, and visionary statesman, Dr. Singh’s demise marks the end of an era and has left an irreplaceable void in Indian politics and public life.
Prominent figures from the cooperative sector, including ICA-AP President Dr. Chandra Pal Singh Yadav, IFFCO MD Dr. U.S. Awasthi, and the dairy giant Amul, joined countless others in expressing their heartfelt condolences.
Dr. Chandra Pal Singh Yadav described the loss as monumental, stating, “The passing of Dr. Manmohan Singh, a great economist and former Prime Minister, is deeply saddening and an irreparable loss to Indian politics. May God grant peace to his soul and give strength to the bereaved family to bear this loss.”
Recalling his personal interactions with the late leader, Yadav shared, “When I was a Lok Sabha MP, we approached Dr. Singh regarding issues of water scarcity. He took the matter seriously and announced a relief package that not only provided immediate support to farmers but also led to the launch of several schemes aimed at ensuring a steady water supply for agricultural needs. He truly cared about the grassroots.”
Adding a unique touch to the wave of tributes, dairy giant Amul released a heartfelt topical in honour of Dr. Singh, featuring the tagline “Sabke Mann Ko Jeeta” (He won everyone’s hearts). The poignant visual, widely shared on social media, was accompanied by a note that read, “Tribute to the former Prime Minister and economist.”
Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah also joined in paying his respects. “Paid floral tributes to the former Prime Minister of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh Ji. A distinguished economist, he will always be remembered for his vast knowledge of finance and public policy,” he said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his grief in a heartfelt message, writing, “The passing away of Dr. Manmohan Singh Ji is deeply saddening. I extend my condolences to his family and admirers.” He emphasized that Dr. Singh’s contributions to India’s economic reforms and his gentle statesmanship have left an indelible mark on the nation.
