In his first ever speech in the Bihar Legislative Council, Biscomaun Chairman Sunil Kumar Singh strongly batted for the farmers of the state and divulged some data which were baffling.
Addressing the chair and supported by former Chief Minister Rabri Devi, Sunil said when there are only two lac farmers from whom the procurement of grains is done in the state how is it possible that the figure becomes 20 lakh farmers when it comes to availing the govt schemes which include farmers’ pension.
Sunil also raised the issue of crops such as dalahan and makhana which do not get support price and are thus not procured denying justice to their croppers. “I request the govt to start their procurement as well by bringing them under the MSP, ” said the newly elected MLC of RJD.
Sunil also asked why procurement of cereals by the PACS has not started yet at any of the centres spread across the state. “When the date of procurement was announced to be November 14, how come till today (Nov 27), not a single grain has been procured”, Sunil asked.
Talking to Indian Cooperative on the phone later Sunil said there were a host of issues plaguing the farming community in the state and as cooperative leader it would be his effort to resolve them one by one. One of his friends quipped it is just the bad luck of the state that he is not the Agriculture Minister as he was already tipped for the job, had RJD come to power.
In his maiden speech Sunil was unsparing and blamed Sushil Modi for grabbing the land of Rashtra Kavi Ramdhari Singh Dinkar. He said the sole reason for the rise of the junior Modi is to criticize Lalu Yadav and please his party bosses. Sunil also blamed Modi for not being able to win any election ever.
Sushil Modi got enraged at Sunil’s statement and asked him to check his facts. Modi listed the number of times he won elections. “Don’t talk irresponsibly and check your facts”, said Modi even while the speaker exhorted members to allow the first-timer complete his statement without heckling him.
Modi also reacted on the issue of land grab and wondered how anyone could grab the land of the Rastra Kavi Dinkar. While he blamed Sunil for being a suit-boot leader having no understanding of realities, Sunil retorted by saying that only when one is guilty he rises on his feet without his turn.
