A cooperative scam breaks in Indore in Madhya Pradesh. The board members of the Dhanlabh cooperative society have swindled one crore rupees deposited by the poor people.
Initially, due to political pressure, the local police showed no interest in the case but when the victims of the scam got together and put their pressure the police relented.
The scam has also been brought to the notice of the registrar of cooperative societies. The scam seems to have taken on a political dimension as Aam Adami Party’ is openly supporting the victims of the scam.
The worst thing about the scam is very poor people and small traders who had deposited their petty amounts ranging from Rs. 25 to 100 in the cooperative society have been cheated by the board members. The cooperative society had promised the depositors big returns on their deposits.
The society is in existence for three years and is located in an upscale neighbourhood of the city. The society had a score of agents collecting money. Police sources say the accused would soon be apprehended.
