Sahakar Bharati-the RSS wing of cooperative seems as ascendant as the BJP if one goes by the results of cooperative elections held across states in recent says. Latest in a string of successes is Bhilwara Mahila Urban Cooperative Bank whose financial health and recovery was a campaign issue.
Promising to usher in a new culture Sahakar Bharati won all the seats in a recently held election of the Rajasthan based beleaguered Bhilwara Mahila Urban Cooperative Bank which had hogged the media headlines in the wake of Reserve Bank of India (RBI) issuing it direction till March 09, 2018.
Earlier, Sahakar Bharati had decimated opposition in CAMPACO elections and in the Karnataka based powerful cooperative body Karnataka State Souharda Federal Cooperative elections. B.H.Krishna Reddy was elected Chairman unopposed in August in the latter.
It bears recall that the former board of the Bhilwara Mahila Urban Cooperative Bank had given loans & advances of around Rs 24 crores by violating the norms of Reserve Bank of India. Sources said the loans had been given to borrowers without collateral which caused the bank to be in the red.
The ‘Sahakar Bharati Panel’ captured all positions including Chairman and Vice-Chairman and 10 directors. The
Payal Aggarwal from the Sahakar Bharati panel who ran for chairman received 989 votes whereas her rival Pratibha Chaudhary from the Ahinsa Group Panel got only 760 votes out of a total of 2149 voters.
Earlier, nominations had been filed on 12th December and for which scrutiny had been done on the same day. The 13th December was the day for withdrawal of nominations.
Soon after the declaration of the result, Payal Aggarwal was drowned with garlands nearly choking her. She thanked one and all profusely.
Bhilwara Mahila Urban Cooperative Bank was established in 1997 and has 4 branches. It has 8,800 members but its Non-Performing Assets (NPA) has risen to a whopping 74 percent. Sahakar Bharati panel has been elected on the promise of bringing the bank back on the rails.
