The newly appointed cooperative minister Chandrakant Patil announced the schedule soon after the Cabinet meet.
CHS the acronym for cooperative housing societies will need to have their new residents’ management committees in place by the year-end. There are nearly four lakh societies in Mumbai region alone.
The cooperative societies with smaller budgets have been asked to complete the process by December 31 of this year, i,e roughly within one and a half month from now.
Larger cooperatives which include cooperative banks and sugar cooperatives have been given time up to June 2015. The prompt move by the new government has enthused well-meaning cooperators across board.
They see a chance of revival of democracy in the cooperatives which are increasingly falling into the hands of vested interest.
The earlier UF-G did create a mess by not taking decsions at right time, which it was duty bound constittionally. The democratic Junta gave a befitting Balot-response and that’s a quid proquo. But it did extend Election dead-line from 31-12-2013 to 31-12-2014. It finalised Draft of the Maharashtra Co-operative Societies (Election to Committee) Rules, 2014.vide Notification No No. CSL. 2013/C.R. No.639/13-C issued 11th September 2014. The other things it finalised the Maharashtra Co-operative Societies (1st Amendment) Rules, 2014 vide Notification No. CSL-2014/697/C.R.04/13C issued on on 30th Agut 2014. Draft of these Rules were gazetted in Augist and December 2013 respy.
These trivial looking things appears to have come in handy to BJP’s Solo Government in the State.
