Cooperatives are a big deal in Karnataka as they are busy distributing huge loans to farmers. They are likely to disburse about Rs 8 thousand crore as loans altogether by the close of this fiscal.
Karnataka cooperation minister H.S Mahadevaprasad has said the state intends amending the cooperative societies Act with a view to involving OBCs, women and the other marginalized sections of society in running the cooperative organizations in a big way.
According to the minister, several schemes on cooperatives are already underway and being expanded to cover areas further afield.
Cooperation department would soon observe ‘ Cooperative Week’ throughout the state and distinguished cooperators would be decorated with ‘Sahakara Ratna’, the minister informed.
