Gujarat State Co-operative Union, Ahmedabad organised a State Level Women Co-operative Seminar on 8th March, 2020 on the occasion of International Women’s Day, which was inaugurated by Nitin Patel, Deputy Chief Minister of Gujarat.
Around 700 women representatives of Women Co-operative Societies from across Gujarat attended the Seminar. The Seminar was presided over by GH Amin, Chairman of state co-op union who also doubles as Vice-Chairman of NCUI.
Women folks are no less than men in terms of talent and grit but they need opportunities to prove their worth, declared Nitin Patel on the occasion. The event was organized at Gujarat State Co-operative Bank, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Sahakar Hall, Ahmedabad.
Deputy Chief Minister Patel said women should be treated as equal to men and all forms of discrimination against women should be abolished. He called for a greater involvement of women in the cooperative state of affairs of the state. Patel also congratulated G.H.Amin for organizing this historic seminar.
Presiding over the function G. H. Amin, stated that despite getting higher education, unfortunately the women do not get the positions & offices they deserve. The society will have to bring transformation so as to give deserving positions to women. There is great scope for women enhancing their contributions to the cooperative sector,
On the occasion, G. H. Amin was felicitated with the “Co-operative Good Governance Award” by the Deputy CM Nitinbhai Patel.
Speaking on the occasion as Chief Guest Ms. Bijalben Patel Mayor of Ahmedabad City said it is encouraging to note that various schemes are being launched across the country for the development and empowerment of women. Gujarat State Co-operative Union deserves congratulations for providing platform for discussing and deliberating the issues related to women, she said.
Ms. Bhavnaben Jadeja, Chairperson of Women Committee of Gujarat State Co-operative Union, Ahmedabad welcomed the guests attending the seminar.
In the first session of the Seminar Ms. Savitri Singh, Program Director, ICA-AP, New Delhi guided on the theme of The Role of Co-operatives in Woman Empowerment, Dr. Tulika Chandra, Faculty Member, M.K.P. College, Dehradun guided on Employment Opportunities in Co-operative Sector, Dr. Mallika Kumar, Associate Professor, Shri Ram College, New Delhi gave a presentation on Participation of Women in Co-operative Sector to 700 women participants attending the seminar.
In the second session Ms. Rupa Shah, Social Activist, Swaroopa Foundation, Ahmedabad guided on the theme of Women Health Awareness.
Arvindbhai Tagadiya Hon. Secretary of Gujarat State Co-operative Union, proposed a vote of thanks. .
The women associated with Co-operative Sector also resolved Not to Use Single Use Plastic Bag on occasion of International Women’s Day in Ahmedabad.
