His term was to end in 2018 but his father was unsure of his clan’s political future in the wake of the upcoming Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh. Aditya Yadav-the scion of ruling clan of Uttar Pradesh was re-elected Chairman of state Pradeshik Cooperative Federation (UPPCF) on Tuesday in Lucknow.
Opposition parties-BJP and Congress have accused Shiv Pal Singh Yadav, father of Aditya Yadav of practising extreme political opportunism for pre-dating an election that was to take place in 2018 in usual course. But the senior Yadav concerned with the future of his son wanted to ensure the latter’s rein as PCF chairman for five years till 2021 and hence this move, reports India Today.
He was scared that if SP fails to win the 2017 elections his son’s re-election in 2018 would not be possible. Shivpal’s wife is also Chairman of a cooperative bank in the state. Opposition parties have maintained that cooperative bodies in the state are being cynically controlled by the Yadav clan giving the thumbs down to the idea of democracy in cooperatives.
Decked with garlands after his victory, the Junior Yadav who has of late been dropping a hint that he wanted to take part in electoral politics said PCF aims to go to the door of each farmer of the state.
Repeated phones to his number elicited no response. Representing the youth brigade in the Samajwadi Party, Aditya is said to be readying himself to contest Assembly elections this time especially when his father and CM are crossing swords.
On the plus side, he is credited with achieving computerization of UPPCF during his tenure with the help of IFFCO, where he is a Board member. He also represents IFFCO on the Board of international cooperative body ICA.
