Maharashtra co-operatives minister Chandrakant Patil has reiterated that the decision to amend the cooperatives Act in order to prevent corrupt people from contesting elections to cooperative bodies for two terms would be put into action as per the govt’s agreement with the RBI. The ordinance would soon be promulgated the minister added, reports Free Press Journal.
The minister strongly denied the move had any political motives. The RBI had long been insisting on a suitable legislation in this regard, the minister said.
According to the minister, as per the decision to appoint directors on cooperative institutions run with partly government capital, there would only be one director chosen from the employees.
But wherever number of directors would be 11 and in case of more number of directors, the government would appoint two of which one would be a government employee of deputy register or higher grade, the minister stated.
