Umesh Sinha an accused in the multicrore Indira Priyadarshini Mahila Nagrik Sahkari Bank scam has suddenly and completely changed his previous statement and said he did not give any bribe to Chhatisgarh chief minister Raman Singh and his cabinet colleagues.
The retraction has caused the state Congress Party to burn with embarrassment.
The sudden development has nullified the effect the Congress’s much ballyhooed release of a CD and transcripts of Sinha’s narco-analysis test had created.
However, Congress is brazening it out saying the state govt. has pressured Sinha to change his previous statement. Sinha is out on bail.
Sources say Sinha’s saying his previous statement was absolutely untrue has not only put congress on the back-foot but also caused a ripple of relief and jubilation in the BJP circles.
