Fishcofed elected its new chairman and vice chairman on 17th of January in a keenly fought election.
Prakash Lonare of Maharashtra was elected the Chairman while P Dora of Orissa was elected vice-chairman.
Elections for about 10 directors of the board of Fishcofed were also to be held in which 8 were elected unanimously.Election for the two directors were held.They were for Bihar and UP. Lonare’s entire panel won and he was elected unopposed.
In the second half, once the board was constituted, election of Chairman and Vice-chairman were to take place. But the massive mandate of Prakash Lonare saw him uncontested winner. Out of three nominated memers only one had come and he also decided to go along with the popular mood. Lohare and Dora were announced victorious.
Though there are six zones but five zones are active-they are east ,west, south, central and north east. Northern zone is dormant with little activities. Two directors from each zone were to be elected.
There has been last minute scramble to enter in the voter list by some people. Petitions were also filed in the court in Nagpur so that the election is postponed. But the court rejected the application and ruled that election to the Board will take place on schedule.
There were about 37 voters out of which a majority voted this time. Naim Ansari,the outgoing Chairman, sensing the mood of voter made a gracious exit by not contesting at all.
