Police on Sunday seized 10,000 sacks of urea from three godowns under Jogbani police station area in Bihar’s Araria district bordering Nepal.
Acting on a tip off, police raided the godowns and seized 10,000 sacks of urea with each sack weighting about 50 kg.
The haul of urea belonged to a trader Amit Gupta who was absconding.
The godowns were constructed within 50 yards of the no man’s land on the Indo-Nepal border, Lande said adding that it was being investigated as to how these godowns were constructed in violation of the norms.
Earlier in September this year, the SSB had seized 8394 sacks of urea from the border districts which were meant for black marketing in Nepal even as there was acute shortage of the fertiliser for farmers of the state. PTI
