The two-day meeting of the Uttar Pradesh’s Working Committee of Sahakar Bharti concluded on Sunday in Meerut with a resolution to bring prosperity through co-operatives. The meeting concluded with an address from Uday Joshi, National General Secretary, who stressed on connecting farmers to the movement and open membership in co-op bodies.
Held at Moti Dhansh Ayodhyapuri Mandap in Hastinapur (Meerut) and attended by more than 300 Sahakar Bharati officials from across the state, the meeting passed eight resolutions.
In his address Uday Joshi said that the importance of the cooperative sector is going to increase as the goal of doubling the income of farmers could be realized only through cooperatives. The central government is making all out efforts in this direction, he added.
Exhorting participants to put in their best in times of changing co-op scenario under the able leadership of the Modi govt, Joshi said that the PACS are being modernized and a large number of Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) are being formed. This is leading to self-reliance among farmers and women.
“It is my belief that Sahakar Bharti has to play a crucial role. The dream of Antyodaya and Integral Humanism will come true only through cooperation. In order to double the income of the farmers, a campaign will have to be launched to connect the farmers with Sahakar Bharati”, stressed Joshi.
A total of eight proposals have been approved. State General Secretary Dr. Praveen Singh Jadaun presented the proposal report. Jadaun said that amendment 31A in section 31 of the Cooperative Act should be abolished. Forty percent of PACS committees lack secretaries and thus while appointing secretaries, the government should bear their salaries, said Jadaun.
Other demands included fair elections in co-ops, open membership and restarting the closed sugar mills. Jadaun said that from January 11 to 18, the establishment week will be celebrated in all the districts of the state. In the presence of Union Minister Deepak Chaurasia, State President Narendra Upadhyay announced new responsibilities of Sahakar Bharti and thanked all the office bearers.
On this occasion, State Organization Chief Dr. Arun Singh, State Vice Presidents Heerendra Mishra and Arun Singh, State Minister Krishna Kumar Ojha, State Contact Chief Ashok Shukla, Sugarcane Cell Chief Karmaveer, State Women Chief Sharda Singh, State Treasurer Shivendra Pratap Singh, State Media In-charge Vivek Rai, social media in-charge Dr. Atul Mohan Singh along with many people were present.
