BJP govt and Samajwadi Party have locked themselves into fight over controlling co-operatives in the most populous state of Uttar Pradesh.
While the SP accuses the govt of flouting constitutional norms by promulgating an ordinance at an appropriate time, govt says the ordinance can be issued after the announcement of the dates of the assembly session.
Raising the issue in the state Assembly, Samajwadi Party leader Shivpal Singh Yadav said the government had announced the dates of the winter session while the governor gave his nod to the ordinance on Cooperative Societies Act. This amounted to a clear violation of the norms, quotes UNI.
Azam Khan, another senior SP leader supported Yadav saying the governor’s approval of the ordinance was objectionable.
Cooperators have, meanwhile, got active as the co-operative bodies elections in the state are due in January next year. BJP and Sahakar Bharati are coordinating to rid co-ops of Samajwadi Party’s influence. Sahakar Bharati officials have already stated to media about their desire to fight co-op elections in Uttar Pradesh.
Yogi Adityanath govt has also begun to take action against those who indulged in wrong-doings in the reign of SP govt. This is being seen as witch-hunting in political circles here.
Earlier, Yogi govt ordered an inquiry into the recruitment of people for scores of posts over the last years. In the latest case, Chukhan Lal Secretary and CEO of Saharanpur District Cooperative Bank and Etawa District Cooperative Bank Deputy Managing Director Sunil Kumar Pundir have been suspended.
There is no full time registrar of cooperative bodies in the state yet while according to an estimate, there are around 50,000 registered cooperative societies in the state.
BJP has been alleging that Shivpal Singh Yadav, then Cooperation Minister got inducted his close family members and supporters into top cooperative posts.
