Paying tributes to a veteran co-operator from Delhi Laxmi Narayan Gupta, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, named the Gurdwara Road at Ashoka Park Extension as the Late Laxmi Narayan Gupta Marg on Tuesday. A well-known co-operator, Gupta was a former President of Sahakar Bharati Delhi Chapter and All India Head of Sahakar Bharati Media Cell.
It bears recall that Gupta succumbed to Covid-19 last year in April. A smiling Gupta as part of the Sahakar Bharati delegation while meeting the representatives of govt, is still fresh in the minds of people. Gupta could always be spotted along with the veteran cooperative leader Satish Marathe.
On Tuesday, an unveiling ceremony was organized in which not only co-operators took part but also the BJP leaders, his family friends, relatives, and others. Gupta was also associated with Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and had been credited with many social works.
Sachdeva former MLA, and others were present.
Remembering Gupta, Marathe said, “I had personal relations with him. We lost a man who was actively working for the cooperative movement. It was a big shock for us when we heard the news of his demise. He was a very dedicated leader”, he added.
“He helped us in setting up the co-op brand ‘Simply Desi’. Gupta was also the Chairman of the cooperative which is giving a platform to the Self-Help Groups, Joint Liability Groups, Women Entrepreneurs and others to sell their products at national as well as international level”, said an emotional Marathe.
His close friend and one of the BJP leaders said Gupta was a mild-mannered man and hard working. He was very active not only in the cooperative sector but also helped us a lot in resolving local area issues.
The event also had political speeches with several BJP leaders attacking the Aam Aadmi Party government’s new excise policy. It bears recall that Municipal bodies in Delhi are ruled by BJP.
Amiable and sweet, Gupta would always be missed by friends and associates. Indian Cooperative joins others in paying tributes to the departed soul.
Laxmiji was very nice and ever smiling friend always ready to help.It was very painful to reconcile to the news of his sudden demise.Actually I rang him up one day for something and he said that he had just got test report and it was positive.I wished him speedy recovery for which he said he will attend to what I had phoned him for, as soon as he got well After two days I messaged him to enquire of his health, he said he was on oxygen support. Just two days later the sad news of his succubing came as a shock.
Happy to learn that a road has been named after him
