Dileepbhai Sanghani has complained of being ignored by the Centre in matter of pre-budget consultations. Sanghani is the Chairman of NAFSCOB-the apex body of co-op banks in the country.
Sanghani who was a Cabinet colleague of the Prime Minister in his earlier avatar as CM of Gujarat has written a letter to the Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley requesting him to include Nafscob for pre-budget consultations.
Readers would recall co-op banks have been in the news for all the wrong reasons in the wake of demonetization.
Jaitley has already met representatives from the cooperative sector which includes NCUI, IFFCO, Sahakar Bharati, among others. It is not for the first time that apex body of co-op banks has been ignored.
Underlining the importance of Nafscob, Sanghani says “NAFSCOB as the apex organisation of the short-term
“NAFSCOB has always been invited for about three decades, twice in a year for pre-budget consultations to ascertain views on agricultural credit, cooperatives and banking/financial institutions”, Sanghani said.
“However, pre-budget consultations with NAFSCOB have been discontinued during the recent past, for reasons unknown to us. We, therefore request you kindly resume discussions with NAFSCOB for better appreciation of the issues involved in agricultural credit cooperatives and banking/financial institutions “, he says in his letter, a copy of which has been mailed to Indian Cooperative by Sanghani’s office.
