The RSS-affiliated Sahakar Bharati has undergone a significant leadership transition, with Dr. Uday Joshi, a prominent figure in the cooperative sector, being elected as its National President for a three-year term. The announcement was made during Sahakar Bharati’s ongoing National Conference in Amritsar.
Dr. Joshi succeeds D.N. Thakur as President, marking a notable shift in the organization’s leadership. Additionally, Deepak Chaurasia, a long-standing worker of Sahakar Bharati, has been elected as the National General Secretary, succeeding Dr. Joshi in this role.
The elections for these key positions took place late Saturday night. Following the announcement of Dr. Joshi’s appointment, social media platforms were flooded with congratulatory messages from supporters and well-wishers.
Born on September 17, 1957, Dr. Joshi began his career as a Lecturer at JSM College, Alibaug, where he served for 35 years, eventually retiring as the Head of the Department and Vice Principal in 2016. He also played an active role in academia, serving as a member of the Academic Council at the University of Mumbai.
Dr. Joshi’s involvement in public service began during his college years as an ABVP activist. With over 37 years of experience in the cooperative movement, he currently serves as a government nominee on the board of the National Cooperative Union of India (NCUI). Dr. Joshi has also represented the cooperative sector in pre-budget consultations with Finance Ministers for the past five years.
Having served as Sahakar Bharati’s National General Secretary since 2015, Dr. Joshi has contributed to the organization’s initiatives for more than 25 years. He is also the founder director of the Raigad District Credit Society Federation.
Bihar-based Deepak Chaurasia, who has been associated with Sahakar Bharati for the past 18 years, now takes on the role of National General Secretary. A trained engineer, Chaurasia is known for maintaining cordial relations across the political spectrum, with connections in RJD, JDU, and BJP.
Chaurasia comes from a political family; his father, Shri Ganga Prasad, served as the Governor of Sikkim and was a former Leader of Opposition. Despite his political lineage, Chaurasia himself remains non-political, focusing on the cooperative movement.
The formal announcement of other office bearers for Sahakar Bharati’s National Executive Committee was made on Sunday, further solidifying the organization’s leadership structure for the years to come.
