In a significant development for cooperative development in India, a delegation from the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) engaged in fruitful discussions with Ashish Kumar Bhutani, Secretary of the Ministry of Cooperation.
The PHDCCI delegation included Vineet Nahata, Chair of the Task Force on Cooperatives and other esteemed members such as Dr. Ranjeet Mehta, Executive Director; Dr. Jatinder Singh, Assistant Secretary General; and Rupesh K Pandey, Senior Secretary.
The meeting served as a platform for an extensive exchange of ideas aimed at bolstering the cooperative sector in India. The PHD Task force stresses on the role of technology in shaping the cooperative movement, urging a deeper exploration and leveraging of technological advancements.
The PHD delegation commended the Ministry for its pioneering initiatives, including the establishment of a comprehensive Database of Cooperatives, facilitating data-driven policy formulation.
It also lauded initiatives such as the creation of National Cooperative Exports Ltd (NCEL), aimed at bolstering India’s cooperative presence on the global stage, and the launch of the National Umbrella Cooperative Federation of India (NUCFDC), designed to provide a protective shield for Urban Cooperative Banks (UCBs).
The PHDCCI delegation, represented by Dr. Jatinder Singh and Shri Rupesh Pandey, presented a meticulously crafted roadmap and planning document to Secretary Bhutani.
This document outlined strategic initiatives geared towards enhancing the cooperative sector’s alignment with national schemes such as Startup India and initiatives for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
Dr. Ranjeet Mehta, Executive Director of PHDCCI, underscored the efficacy of the 54 initiatives undertaken by the Ministry of Cooperation, portraying them as a guiding beacon for future endeavors in the cooperative landscape.
Secretary Bhutani commended the PHDCCI’s unwavering efforts in promoting the cooperative sector and recognized its potential to significantly impact the economy. He assured the delegation of the Ministry’s steadfast support, pledging to diligently execute the outlined roadmap and initiatives.
The meeting concluded on a note of optimism, with both parties expressing confidence in the collaborative efforts to fortify and expand the cooperative sector’s footprint in India.
