The first meeting of the newly elected office bearers of Uttarakhand Pradeshik Cooperative Union (PCU) was held on Thursday, in which it was decided that PCU will supply Ganga water across the country in earthen pots. The meeting took place in the presence of State Cooperative Minister Dr Dhan Singh Rawat.
Earlier, as predicted in these columns Ram Mehrotra and Shailendra Singh Bisht became the new Chairman and Vice-Chairman of the co-op body PCU, in an election held on Wednesday at Dehradun.
Soon after the first board meeting the newly elected Chairman Ram Mehrotra said, “The first meeting of PCU was concluded in which several development proposals were passed unanimously. He said PCU would supply Ganga water across the country in earthen pots”. In the first phase, PCU would make arrangements to send the Gangajal in earthen pots to 12 Jyotirlinga, he added.
Besides, the board resolved to set up training centers in Kumaon and Garhwal divisions for training PACCs representatives and others. The Cooperative Minister has assured of giving all help and support for the development of the cooperative sector in the State”, said Mehrotra quoting the Minister. Mehrotra is also on the board of Udhamsingh Nagar DCCB.
Earlier, there was speculation that the outgoing Chairman Pradeep Chaudhary would be replaced by Mehrotra at the GC of the apex body NCUI. The Board meeting, however, clarified that Chaudhary would continue as the GC member.
Both the leaders-Chairman and Vice-Chairman belong to BJP and are former district presidents of their respective districts. Soon after the announcement of their names, they went to meet the State Cooperative Minister Dhan Singh Rawat.
Mehrotra is an elected leader but Bisht was nominated by the board. The new board comprises 15 directors and half the elected directors are District Cooperative Banks Chairmen or their wives or their relatives.
The State Cooperative Minister also shared the news through social media and wrote, “Today the first board meeting of Uttarakhand Pradeshik Cooperative Union, Dehradun elected Chairman / Deputy Chairman and respected members of the Management Committee was organized”.
