Cooperative movement in north-east is perceived to be weak but the recent growth stories of Nagaland State Cooperative Bank offers a ray of hope. The 50 years old Nagaland State Cooperative Bank has recently opened its 17th ATM at Chozuba Branch in the state. The Bank Vice-Chairman Kekhwangule Lea launched the ATM as the chief guest.
While talking to this correspondent on the phone from Nagaland, the Bank Vice-Chairman Kekhwangule Lea informed “Our bank has installed its 17th ATM booth in Chazouba for the benefits of the people of the area. “
“We are also planning to open more branches with the ATM facilities in the coming years and the State Government is supportive of our efforts in this direction”, he said.
“Recently our bank has also launched the first mobile ATM on wheels in the state during the Golden Jubilee Celebrations”, he stated.
Lea said ”earlier our bank was grappling with a financial crunch but now we are performing well and have earned a
net profit of Rs 8.37 crore in the last financial year”.
NStCB was established on 4th November 1966 and is having 21 branches in the state. The Bank is equipped with latest technologies trying to meet the needs of its clients.
National Cooperative Union of India-the apex national body has launched several field projects to ignite the co-op movement in the region. IFFCO-the largest co-op in the country is also gearing up to make Sikkim the organic capital of the country by tying up with the state govt.
Prime Minister Modi himself was in the area last week soon after the Gujarat elections to launch massive infrastructure projects for the seven sisters. Co-ops like Nagaland State Co-op Bank are lending a helping hands to govt efforts, said a local leader.
