The National Federation of Co-operative Sugar Factories (NFCSF) has announced the recipients of the prestigious Efficiency Awards for cooperative sugar factories across the country for the year 2022-23. NFCSF President Harshvardhan Patil made the announcement, recognizing the exceptional performance of 21 cooperative sugar factories.
This recognition is the result of a thorough evaluation process by an Expert Committee chaired by the Chief Director of Sugar, which included various distinguished members from the sugar industry and state federations.
The Expert Committee assessed the performance of the cooperative sugar factories based on several criteria, including cane development, technical efficiency, financial management, highest cane crushing, highest sugar recovery, and maximum sugar export. A total of 92 cooperative sugar factories from across the country participated in this year’s awards, including 38 from Maharashtra, 11 each from Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat, 10 from Tamil Nadu, 8 each from Punjab and Haryana, 4 from Karnataka, and one each from Madhya Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
To ensure a fair competition, the country’s sugar sector was divided into two groups based on sugar recovery rates. The first group included Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Karnataka, known for high sugar recovery rates (above 10%). A total of 53 cooperative sugar factories participated from this group.
The second group comprised the remaining states with sugar recovery rates below 10%, with 39 cooperative sugar factories participating. This grouping encourages factories to improve their efficiency and fosters a competitive spirit among them. Additionally, a policy of “one prize per factory” is implemented to maintain fairness.
The Award distribution ceremony will be held in New Delhi in August, in the presence of prominent industry figures, as stated by NFCSF Managing Director Mr. Prakash Naiknavare.
