The cooperative circle erupted with euphoria as soon as the Samajwadi Party announced the names of six party candidates for the Rajya Sabha elections scheduled next month on Friday.
The party’s central parliamentary board at a meeting in the national capital cleared the names of Ram Gopal Yadav, Javed Ali, Chandra Pal Singh Yadav, Neeraj Shekhar, Ravi Prakash Verma and Tanzeem Fatima.
Talking to Indian Cooperative NCUI President Dr Yadav thanked the Samajwadi Party High Command for choosing him for the RS seat. Dr. Yadav’s selection speaks volumes when even a skilled element like Amar Singh failed to get it. This underscores Dr. Yadav’s closeness to the ruling party of the largest state of the country, say insiders.
In the telephonic conversation Chandra Pal said ”his elevation to the RS membership would benefit the entire cooperative sector hitherto ignored by the Central government.’
”I will raise matters concerning cooperatives in the House and fight for their due place in the Union Budget that has always mollycoddled the corporate sector at their expense, an energized Chandra Pal told this correspondent.”
Talking about the election, he expressed confidence about sailing through it without glitches given the Samajwadi Party’s strength in the House. Polling for the 10 Rajya Sabha seats from Uttar Pradesh is scheduled Nov 20.
In fact, all the six candidates of the SP, based on party’s strength in the state assembly, are going to make it , according to a political expert versed with the Rajya Sabha elections.
In the meeting held at the central SP office in New Delhi, the party’s heavyweights including Mulayam Singh Yadav, Ram Gopal Yadav, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and Azam Khan were present. After the meeting, Ram Gopal Yadav issued the list of candidates for the RS polls.
Shivpal Yadav, father of Aditya Yadav who recently won Board membership of ICA had missed the meeting due to his foreign tour.
