In the first meeting with the media in Delhi on Thursday, NCUI newly elected President Dr Chandra Pal Singh Yadav emphasized on the need of strengthening the cooperative movement across the states. He said that cooperative being a state subject, the move to make cooperative movement a success has to come from the State governments. On the query from one of the media persons as to how NCUI will go about it,Dr Singh said that cooperative leaders from Centre will go in delegation to meet state govts and concerned leaders as well as officials to drive home the point.
He laid emphasis on the fact that trust is what matters for the success of cooperative movement. Citing examples of KRIBHCO and IFFCO he said that other brands of fertilizers are rejected before them only because farmers know that KRIBHCO and IIFCO never cheat. Trust in the cooperative leadership is very important to attract more and more people in the fold of the movement.
He also aims at improving the lot of farmers who are being played around by the middleman. If the cooperative movement gathers steam middleman will vanish automatically, he added. He also sees hope of containing inflation with the help of cooperatives.
Dr Yadav sounded quite confident of taking cooperative movement to new heights and is devising strategies for attracting youth and women in this movement. On the issue of women reservation he is open to giving 2 to 3 seats to women in every board of 10 persons. Being the President of the apex body, he would be closely watched to find agreement between what he says and what he does.
