NCDC’s one day awareness cum training program for fishermen across states is drawing huge response. The training is imparted under the newly launched fisheries flagship scheme– Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMSSY).
The Yojana aims at focused development and promotion of seaweed cultivation and value chain with requisite financial allocations. LINAC branches of NCDC are playing an active role in this exercise.
Such programs were organized in Panjim, Goa and Morena, Madhya Pradesh, in which scores of fishermen participated. Earlier such an event was organized in Chandipur, Odisha in which Union Minister Pratap Sarangi participated.
The Morena training program was organized in collaboration with the Regional office of LINAC in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh whereas the Panjim training program was organized in collaboration with LINAC, Pune and Ministry of fisheries.
The guests on the occasion emphasized on the need for development of fisheries related infrastructure in the state and formation of cooperatives in the sector. Formation of cooperatives and use of technology in the sector can go a long way in exploiting the huge fisheries potential in the state, they said.
The news was shared through the social media handle of NCDC. They wrote, “NCDC LINAC & Fisheries GoI jointly organised programs on PMMSY for fisher persons in Morena district MP India”.
Readers would recall that the Centre has outlaid Rs 3,490 crore for the development of fishing harbours and fish landing centers. Under PMSSY, seaweed production target of 11.20 lakh tonnes over a period of five years from 2020-21 to 2024-25 has been set.
Recently in February, in a bid to synergise programs for promotion of export-oriented marine products, the NCDC and Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA) signed an MoU.
Under the MoU, MPEDA and its societies and NCDC will jointly formulate programs to provide technical know-how to cooperatives to upscale infrastructure created for primary production and post-harvest management in the marine products export sector.
