NCDC-LINAC conducted two weeks long residential workshop for international participants on Disaster Risk Management and Cooperatives at Gurugram. The workshop concluded on Friday in the presence of several officials and experts including Dr Shobhana K Pattanayak, former Agriculture Secretary.
Fulfilling its promise of developing into a world class co-op training institute at the time of its inception, LINAC was able to attract 18 professionals from Ethiopia, Nepal, Bangladesh and India in this programme. The Workshop was funded by The World Bank Washington.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the workshop, Dr Shobhana K Pattanayak, highlighted the role of farmers through Cooperatives in disaster risk mitigation and responsibilities under climate change challenges faced by the world. He also talked about the new initiatives of Government of India in doubling the farmers’ income.
Mr Alemseged W Yohannes Bedane, Senior DRM Specialist in World Bank, Addis Ababa told that NCDC LINAC academy has really been able to bring together top minds of the country in various subjects of DRM main streaming and co-operative development from NCDC and other prestigious institutes of India for sharing their experiences.
Bedane appreciated the practical computer laboratory simulations imparted by NCDC experts at LINAC.
Dr Pattanayak congratulated the successful conduct of the workshop and expressed his admiration for the design and conduct of the course.
While speaking with the media, Miss Yirgalem Enyew Tesfaye, Director of National Cooperatives Development Authority, Government of Ethiopia said that the best part of the workshop was field visit to primary Cooperatives, Coop Banks and interaction with best minds in Cooperative sector of India.
She said she would like to bring Ethiopian Cooperatives to participate in the India International Cooperatives Trade Fair in October 2019.
NEDAC Bangkok coordinated participation of professionals from its member countries. Col Bikramjit Singh, Chief Director of NCDC-LINAC was the Course Coordinator of the workshop.
