Because of delay in a rescue package for NAFED, the ailing cooperative’s Vice-Chairman Dileepbhai Sanghani is rushing to Delhi to meet Union Minister of State for Agriculture Puroshottam Rupala.
Before his visit, Sanghani said to this correspondent “I will meet Puroshottam Rupala in Agriculture Ministry and will discuss the NAFED revival package”. Because of his preoccupation with the Budget session, he is likely to meet the minister in his Parliament office, Sanghani informed.
Earlier, Citing Section 61 and Section 67 of the MSCS Act 2002 Law Ministry has opposed the govt move to bailout Nafed from its tattered financial situation but Solicitor General has supported saying per Section 61(G) Nafed could be granted a bailout.
Readers would recall that the govt had decided to give an annual grant of Rs 30 crore for a period of 5 years to the Nafed to meet its financial obligations including salaries of employees and administrative expenses.
The govt had also offered to stand as guarantor for Nafed before the lending banks who had moved Debt Recovery Tribunal for recovery of their outstanding dues of around Rs 1700 crore.
Despite all these the fact remains that the agri- coop has yet not got any fund, said a cooperator connected with Nafed. “ Given his proximity with the govt we hope Sanghani would expedite the matter, he added.
