Press Trust of India reports over 50 thousand farmers affected by successive droughts in Gujarat have begun availing themselves of the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojna via the State portal.

Under the new scheme started this year, farmers’ premium has been kept between 1.5-2 per cent for food-grains and oil seed crops and up to 5 per cent for horticultural and cotton crops. And there is no cap on the premium.

Gujarat is the only State enrolling farmers under the scheme through its own e-portal. In other States, farmers are being registered by banks, and Primary Agricultural Credit Society (PACS), official sources said.

According to officials, the Karnataka government has also decided to have its own State portal for PMFBY.

Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Uttarakhand and West Bengal – and Union Territory Andaman and Nicobar Islands have notified the PMFBY.
