Inaugurating the Global Conference of ICA on Tuesday Malaysian Cooperative Minister Hamzah Bin Zainudin warmly welcomed the guests saying Malaysia felt honored that it was hosting the 2017 edition of the Global Conference and General Assembly of the International Co-operative Alliance.
Hundreds of Co-operators and delegates have arrived from all parts of the world representing 301 co-ops of 105 countries in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. More than a dozen meetings of different committees are taking place as the conference schedule is packed.

“Capacity building of co-operators as knowledge workers will be a pillar for the future success of the co-operative sector. The speed of technological growth, global economic volatility and competitive demands are a reality for new generation of co-operators”, the minister said.
He also said the Co-operatives are poised to contribute at least 10 per cent to Malaysia’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) via wholesale trade and retail, housing, tourism, services, farming, transportation, agriculture and agro-based industries.
