The panel ‘Sahakar Samridhi’ including candidates from Sahakar Bharati and the outgoing Chairman of MAFCOCS, Kaka Koyate won the board of directors’ elections of Maharashtra State Cooperative Credit Societies Federation (MAFCOCS) unopposed, held on Wednesday.

Sahakar Bharati and Kaka Koyate had jointly fielded their candidates. The board comprises 21 directors out of which 10 are from Sahakar Bharati and 11 candidates are associated with Kaka Koyte who is the veteran cooperator of Maharashtra.

Talking to the Indian Cooperative correspondent, MAFCOCS’ outgoing Chairman Kaka Koyate said, “Our panel won the elections of the board of directors of MAFCOCS with full majority. We are thankful to the members who again reposed faith in us.We will work together to take the federation to newer heights”.

“Many top co-operators from credit federations including Buldana Urban Radheshyam Chandak, Shivkrupa Sahakari Patpedhi Chandrakant Vanjari, Ratnagiri BJP President Deepak Patwardhan and others are on the board”, he added.

Koyate further said, “There are several issues related to the credit co-ops which needs to be resolved sooner than later. The issues are–a body like DICGC should be set up at the national level for credit co-ops, simplification of the recovery process, Income Tax exemption to credit societies and others”

In the elections of MAFCOCS, 65 nominations were filed but after scrutiny 35 were found valid while 14 people withdrew their names. Since one of the candidates Jijaba Pawar of Dnyandeep Co-op Credit Society withdrew his name at the last moment, the election for the seat could not be held. He had the support of Maharashtra’s BJP top leadership.

The newly elected board comprises 14 outgoing directors and 7 newcomers. Digvijay Ahir, DDR, was appointed as the returning officer to oversee the election process.

There are around 16,000 credit co-operative societies in Maharashtra which consist of 2.25 crore members. Over 8.30 lakh employees are associated with these co-op societies. On an average, 25 percent of Maharashtra’s population is covered by the credit co-ops.
