There were several cooperators who were in Lok Sabha fray. While majority of them have won, there are a few setbacks as well. While the most notable setback is that of Mukut Bihari Verma, the most noteworthy victory is that of Radha Mohan Singh, touted as a loser in poll survey.
BSP candidate Ritesh Pandey defeated Uttar Pradesh Cooperative Minister Mukut Bihari Verma who fought the Lok Sabha election from Ambedkar Seat in Uttar Pradesh.
Union Minister for Agriculture Radha Mohan Singh defeated his rival Aakash Kumar Singh from Rashtriya Lok Samta Party from Purvi Champaran seat in Bihar with an impressive margin.
Another good news came from Vishal Singh who was himself elected as Director of NAFED on the day his father-in-law Brijbhushan Sharan Singh won from Kesarganj on a BJP ticket 7th time in a row.
IFFCO former board member Ramakant Bhargava defeated INC leader Shailendra Patel from Vidisha, Madhya Pradesh on a BJP ticket after External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj backed out of the contest just before polls this year citing health issues. Bhargava had chosen not to contest IFFCO election due to his preoccupation with LS polls.
Prataprao Ganpatrao Jadhav who fought the election from Buldhana, Maharashtra on a Shiv Sena ticket defeated Buldhana Cooperative Bank former chairman and former minister of state Rajendra Shingane who fought election on the ticket of Nationalist Congress Party.
A cooperator and active member of Sahakar Bharati Annasaheb Jolle who get the ticket from Chikkodi, Karnataka has defeated the Indian National Congress candidate Prakash Babanna Hukkeri from this seat.
More news of cooperators making it to Lok Sabha is expected. Congress president Rahul Gandhi said he takes “100 per cent” responsibility for the defeat in Lok Sabha polls and congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP on their spectacular victory, but asserted his party will continue to fight the ideological battle with the saffron party.
