The insensitivity of private hospitals- both in terms of patient’s care and fleecing them is well-known and this explains the warm reception given to the emergence of cooperative hospitals in South India. Amidst this Kerala based Koyilandy Cooperative Hospital and Medical Academy has begun constructing the specialty hospital with a total bed capacity of 150. The total construction cost is Rs 27 crore.
Talking to Indian Cooperative correspondent P. Viswan, Ex-MLA, President of Cooperative Hospital said, “We see that private hospitals are harassing the poor people and charging a lot of money from them. The aim of the hospital is to make available better and quality treatment to the general public at affordable costs. Our objective is not to earn profit but to help the needy people. . We are committed to helping the ordinary people”, he underlined.
He further said, “The construction of hospital is underway and we hope it will be completed in a year. The hospital will be a five storey building and be spread over 66379.19 sq.ft. It will be equipped with modern operation theatre, ICU, casualty, cardiology, trauma care, dialysis, Scanning and Laboratory”, he informed.
“The hospital will consist of different departments including General Medicine, Gynecology, Pediatrics, Orthopedics, Cardiology, Ophthalmology, ENT and Speech Therapy. There will be 24 hours working casualty, Pharmacy, Laboratory, ECG and Ambulance Service”, Viswan noted.
To give advanced facilities, the management contemplates commencing new projects, imbibing the latest trends and advancements, in the health sector.
The hospital design by Kerala based Uralungal Labour Contract Cooperative Society, Vadakara. Kozhikode District Cooperative Hospital is also one of the cooperative hospitals in Kerala.
The Koyilandy Co-operative Hospital, registered in the year 2000 will be one of the centers of quality health care.
