Amidst allegations and counter allegations doing rounds in the run up to the elections, Laxmi Dass is set to play third inning as the Chairman of Delhi-NCR leading UCB Kangra Cooperative Bank. The campaigning saw may lows as titled in a story in these columns “Kangra Co-op Bank laundering dirty linen in public”.
The ‘Himachal Social Group’ panel to which Dass belonged, included besides Chairman and Vice-Chairman, two women director and 11 directors. They were all declared elected in the elections held on Sunday and the results of which were declared late evening same day in Paharganj, New Delhi.
“Laxmi Dass got 4,718 votes and his rival Sudesh Kumar Sukhla from ‘Himachal Vikas Manch’ panel got 1,431 votes out of a total of 6,886 voters”, announced Parminder Singh, Returning officer.
Shakti Chand Sharma who was contesting election for the post of Vice-Chairman has received 4,542 votes while his rival Pawan Kumar Guleria from ‘Himachal Vikas Manch’ got only 1,843 votes.
Prior to the election Guleria was in the panel of ‘Himachal Social Group’ but due to some differences he joined ‘Himachal Vikas Manch’ and fought election for the post of Vice-Chairman. He could not succeed.

Earlier, the nominations for elections were filed on 14th October and scrutiny was over by 16th October. The 17th October was the day for withdrawal of nomination.
Soon after the declaration of his name Laxmi Dass was drowned with garlands which nearly choked him. An emotional Dass thanked one and all profusely.
Later talking to Indian Cooperative Dass said that his is a very strong team. “We are working for the development of bank from more than 40 years and now expansion of banking business, trying for scheduled status and adoption of latest technologies would be the priority areas”, Das added.
Kangra Cooperative Bank is one of the leading banks of Delhi-NCR and has a business mix of about 11,000 crore. It earned a net profit of Rs 11.5 crore in the last financial year. There are about 42,000 members associated with the bank.
