If what is being heard through the grapevine is to be given credence to Union Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Radha Mohan Singh is likely to be relieved of his job in the next Cabinet reshuffle. His ill luck is being blamed on his lack-lustre performance as the minister of agriculture.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is about to reshuffle his cabinet in the wake of Manohar Parikar going to Goa as CM and Mr Anil Madhav Dave’s sudden death.
Enadu -the leading media house of Andhra Pradesh says that Singh may not be retained in the next cabinet reshuffle. The paper adds that Prime Minister Modi is not happy with his performance so far.
It is also being rumored that BJP President Amit Shah is of the opinion that a great deal is yet to be done in the Agricultural Ministry and Singh has not been able to generate the needed pace to achieve the govt’s goal.
Singh suffers comparison with Dharmendra Pradhan, Piyush Goyal and Sitharaman whose performance has much to commend it. Modi’s goal in agriculture is ambitious -doubling farmers’ income by 2022- and he needs a person who could rise equal to the challenge, said the source.
Singh who loses no opportunity to tweet even a minor “achievement” of his Ministry but his performance has not measured up to the standards set by PMO. The latter has developed its own- yardstick of a minister’s ‘ performance.
Narendra Modi is likely planning a Cabinet reshuffle after the presidential election on 25 July, according to media reports. There is a growing impression in the ruling party that a reshuffle and expansion are necessary to streamline the Cabinet for the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.
While Kalraj Mishra Minister of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises is also likely to be shown the door, Dharmendra Pradhan and Sitharaman are probables for promotion as Cabinet Ministers, added the source.
