Nellore based IFFCO subsidiary IKSEZ has inked a pact with the subsidiary of Central Warehousing Corporation (CRWC) to develop integrated Railside warehouse complex and freight terminal.
Breaking the news IFFCO MD Dr U S Awasthi tweeted”Congratulations @iksez for an agreement vid #CRWC 2 develop Integrated Railside Warehouse Complex & Freight Terminal.”
Readers would note that IFFCO is developing an Agro based SEZ known as IFFCO Kisan SEZ (IKSEZ) through its wholly owned subsidiary at Nellore in Andhra Pradesh. IKSEZ is an Agribusiness Special Economic Zone based on the concept of Integrated Agropark.
It has facility for setting up a Railway Siding aimed at empowering farmers by developing a “Farmer Owned – Farmer Managed” SEZ with state of the art infrastructure facilities catering primarily to the food processing industry and housing global manufacturing majors, reads its website.
To expedite the progress of works at IKSEZ Dr U S Awasthi, the Managing Director of IFFCO had gone to meet the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Chandra Babu Naidu as soon as he was anointed CM.
Readers would also recall IFFCO Kisan SEZ (IKSEZ) land got stuck-up in court since Feb, 2012 due to a litigation pending before the Andhra Pradesh High Court. The case was argued in the High Court and IKSEZ won the case after a long legal battle.
Surmounting all bottle-necks IKSEZ has now joined hands with CRWC. Ministry of Railways and Central Warehousing Corporation had jointly taken up the job of developing warehousing complexes near railway terminals through a new company named Central Railside Warehouse Company that aims to provide better service through total logistic solution to rail users.
Good to see some news with regards to IFFCO Kisan SEZ at Nellore. The land has been lying vacant close to 25 years or more now,i believe.I think a lot of time has been wasted by everyone concerned and now it’s time to make up for those lapses.I think Mr.Awasthi also had plans to establish an urea plant in the SEZ but due to lack of support from both central & state govt. for the supply of gas,the project never took off, from time to time there were stories about companies or others showing interest but nothing major ever happened.I just hope this is a genuine genuine start this time around.Good stuff!!
