International Cooperative Alliance-Asia Pacific (ICA-AP) organized its board meeting on Monday at Malaysia, which was presided over by its President Dr Chandra Pal Singh Yadav, who doubles as the Chairman of Kribhco.
From the Indian side, the meeting was attended by the NCUI President Dileepbhai Sanghani, Chief Executive Sudhir Mahajan and Deputy CE Savitri Singh, among others.
ICA-AP Regional Director Balu Iyer and several other Board members representing the countries of Asia Pacific including our neighbour Nepal attended the meeting.
Giving information on the agenda of the Board meeting, Regional Director Balu Iyer tweeted “Regional Board meets in Malaysia. Discusses activities carried out by committees, membership issues, Regional Assembly, and upcoming regional activities.”
Talking to the Indian Cooperative soon after the meeting, ICA-AP Chairman Dr Chandra Pal Singh Yadav, “Discussions were held on a host of issues including connecting the youth and women with the cooperative sector in the Asia Pacific region. Discussions were also held on the preparations of the 16th Regional Assembly, which is scheduled to take place in Philippines from 6-10 November 2023”.
The 16th ICA-AP Regional Assembly will be hosted by Philippines Cooperative Affiliates (PCF) on behalf of the Philippines Cooperative Movement. The theme of the event is ‘Cooperative: Our Common Agenda.
The ICA AP Board also took up the matter of increasing the membership base of ICA-AP as well as recovery of the dues arising out of the outstanding subscription”.
Sources add that many countries such as Dubai, Jordan, Palestine, Saudi Arabia and others sought the help of ICA-AP in expanding the cooperative movement in their respective countries. The ICA-AP Board resolved to help and guide them.
Meanwhile, IFFCO Chairman Dileepbhai Sanghani also shared the photos on social media with caption, “Attended the Board meeting of ICA-AP held in Malaysia under the chairmanship of Dr Chandrapal Singh Yadav, President, International Cooperative Alliance, Asia Pacific (ICA-AP)”.
Readers would recall that last month ICA-AP held the Asia-Pacific Cooperative Youth Summit (APCYS 4.0) at Sabah, Malaysia and concluded with the address of Malaysia’s Deputy Prime Minister Zahid Hamidi.
In his address, Hamidi said, “I strongly believe that youth participation in cooperatives can be a catalyst for their personal growth, leadership skills, and community engagement, while fostering sustainable and ethical business practices that benefit society at large”, he added.
