Ghanshyambhai Amin has been elected unopposed yet again as the Chairman of Gujarat State Cooperative Union (GSCU), the election for which was held last week in Ahmadabad. This will be his 9th term as the chairman.
“G.H.Amin- the veteran cooperator from Gujarat and Vice-President of National Cooperative Union of India (NCUI) has been elected unopposed”, announced J.B.Desai, Returning officer in a SGM.
In a chat with Indian Cooperative soon after getting elected, Amin said “I am feeling enthusiastic that I was re-elected unopposed for the 9th term as the Chairman of Gujarat State Cooperative Union. After defeating Atma Ram Bhai Patel who was the former Chairman of GSCU, at that time I was elected in 1993”, he said while recalling the history.
Exemplifying true cooperative spirit which cuts across party lines Amin who belongs to BJP was supported by Congressmen too. His nomination was proposed by Dhirubhai Shah, Congress leader and Ex-Chairman of Gujarat State Cooperative Bank and was seconded by Shivjibhai Ahir, former MLA of Congress from Kutch district.
On the lines of NCUI, Gujarat State Co-op Union also runs training centres in the state. Speaking on the issue Amin said ”We would open six more training centers in Gujarat.” He also listed the training centers already working at Nadiad, Mehsana, Surat, Bhavnagar, Rajkot and Ahmedabad. “We would change the education training system and recruit consultants from NCCT-the educational arm of NCUI,” he underlined.
Amin also the Chairman of Cooperative Bank of India said “We are also planning to upgrade ourselves with the latest technology and introduce new educational techniques to make training easy and understandable”.
Meanwhile, GSCU is working on a book which highlights successful cooperatives including dairy, sugar, and bank in Gujarat. “I hope the book would soon see the light of day”, Amin said.
The board has a Vice-Chairman in Jayant Singh Jadega, two honorary secretaries, one women director and other 22 directors.
