In a changing scenario where the govt plan to double the fish production is gaining momentum day by day Fishcopfed Managing Director B K Mishra sees a paradigm shift for his organization from a promotional one to a business entity.
Lauding the govt’s 50 percent subsidy on infrastructure and on processing plants Mishra said the fisheries sector is mostly populated by weaker sections and a preferential treatment in the form of 80 per cent as proposed for the north-eastern states would go a long way in igniting the revolution.
Assuring the govt of the sector’s support MD said let the govt give us a corpus fund and a target for five years we would not fail and would deliver 20 per cent of total production.
Counting the strength of his co-op societies he said there are about 500 cooperative societies in the fisheries sector which belong to A and B categories. We have to select 100 of them to help realize the goal of Blue Revolution.
He also proposes to seek NCDC help in educating the fishermen on various issues including preparing DPR to be submitted to the govt. “ We are even ready to stand guarantee for our co-op societies in seeking loans from NCDC”, Mishra added.
