VAMNICOM, organized an International Program on “Governance and Management of Cooperatives – Indian Experiences” from 4th to 11th December 2023 sponsored by African Asian Rural Development Organization (AARDO), New Delhi.
The program was conducted at Vaikunth Mehta National Institute of Cooperative Management, Pune, informs a press release issued by the institute.
About 12 participants from as many as 12 countries such as Bangladesh, Egypt, Gambia, Ghana, ICA-AP, Jordan, Kenya, Mauritius, Namibia, Nigeria, Oman & Zambia were nominated by AARDO for this program.
AARDO is an autonomous inter-governmental organization comprising country governments of Africa and Asia. The organization was set up with a view to promote coordinated efforts, exchange of experiences and cooperative action for furthering the objectives of development of rural areas.
The program aimed to acquaint the participants with good practices and Indian experiences of governance in cooperative and rural financing institutions.
The objective of the program was to acquaint the participants with values, principles and the mission of credit cooperatives and equipped them with skills on preparing strategy, decision making, conducting board meetings and relevant management tools and techniques for the effective management of the organization.
A pool of experts from Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations (FAO), International Cooperative Alliance (ICA-AP), Mulkanoor Cooperative Rural and Credit Society Ltd, National Cooperative Union of India (NCUI), Shivaji University, Kolhapur, Looms Ladakh and INERA Crop sciences engaged with the participants and shared their valuable insights.
The Study visits were also arranged to cooperatives nearby Pune & Kolhapur to understand the governance and management structure. The visits were planned to give all the participants the practical knowledge of governance and management of cooperatives.
