In a recent newsletter, the International Cooperative Alliance Asia Pacific (ICA-AP) extended a warm invitation to cooperatives around the world to celebrate the International Day of Cooperatives with enthusiasm and style.
Scheduled for July 6, 2024, this global event, popularly known as CoopsDay, is an annual celebration that highlights the impactful work of cooperatives in fostering community development and sustainable economic growth.
This year’s theme, “Cooperatives Build a Better Future for All,” is particularly resonant. It reflects the unique position of cooperatives in driving societal progress and their pivotal role in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by the target year 2030.
Cooperatives, with their community-focused business model, are vital agents in promoting inclusivity and sustainability. They empower members, secure livelihoods, and enhance social integration, making substantial contributions to poverty reduction and economic stability worldwide.
The theme for CoopsDay 2024 not only echoes the cooperative movement’s ongoing commitment to community and sustainability but also ties in seamlessly with the objectives of the upcoming UN Summit of the Future.
The Summit’s theme, “Multilateral Solutions for a Better Tomorrow,” calls for collaborative approaches to global challenges, an ethos that cooperatives embody through their democratic governance and member-centric operations.
To facilitate a vibrant celebration of this day, ICA-AP has curated a media pack that includes promotional materials such as logos, key messages, and various digital resources, which can be accessed at https://www.coopsday.coop/.
These tools are designed to help cooperatives worldwide not only partake in the day’s events but also to showcase their achievements and the significant role they play in sustainable development.
ICA-AP encourages all cooperative members to engage actively in CoopsDay. “By sharing your celebrations and stories, you contribute to a global showcase of cooperative impact. For those interested in featuring their events on an interactive global map or to seek further engagement, please reach out to Shivali Sarna, Lead – Communication and Membership Development at ICA-AP, via Shivali.sarna@icaap.coop” , reads the newsletter.
It further added “This collaboration will enrich our collective understanding and appreciation of the cooperative difference, reinforcing the message that cooperatives indeed build a better future for all.”
