Co-ops leading in cashless move: Ministry

While raid by the ED and income tax department continued for whole of Thursday at various offices of District Central Cooperative Banks across the nation, the agriculture ministry has lauded the role being played by cooperatives in making India a cashless society.

It has came up with reassuring data of farmers going cashless at the behest of training camps organized by the co-operative bodies.

Agriculture Ministry said so far about 50 such camps have been organised. It said IFFCO, Kribhco, NAFED, Nabard, GCMMF (Amul) and urban cooperative banks such as Saraswat Cooperative Bank are active in this direction.

Union Minister Radha Mohan Singh himself has been active in such training camps organized by cooperative organizations.

As per agriculture department data, so far more than 81,000 farmers have downloaded e-wallet on their mobile phones. The department is hoping nearly 400,000 farmers and agri-business persons will be on mobile banking platform.

Saraswat Co-operative Bank (Updated till 17th December)

1) Opened 36427 new Bank accounts

2) 24202 are registered for Debit Cards and 5284 for Mobile Banking

3) 21000 Rupay debit cards

4) 350 POS machines have been installed after demonetisation

5) opening 1000 accounts per day-all news accounts on digital channel

6) In customer base of 27 lakh of which 14 lakh are registered for debit cards, over 3 lakh mobile banking registrations, over 3 lakh customers registered for Internet Banking.

7)Branch wise awareness programmes

TJSB Sahakari Bank

1) Opened 9191 new Bank accounts

2)16000 users have been registered for their Tranzapp UPI app, 6000 Rupay debit cards, 350 POS machines have been installed after demonetisation.

3)Conducted more than 10 awareness programmes involving Auto rickshaw drivers

4)Added 15 other cooperative Banks on ATM NFS network and mobile banking

NAFED

Procured 932.66 lacs MT of food grains for which it has made 452 crores of cash less payment to the farmers.

NABARD

1) Organizing nationwide awareness programme for rural population in India

2) Conducted 29 regional level and 400 FLC level training programmes.

3) Started village level training programmes in 16000 villages’ nationwide.
