Sunday saw the change of the guard at the Annual General Meeting of the chocolate producing cooperative Central Arecanut and Cocoa Marketing and Processing (CAMPCO). Konkodi Padmanabha who was President of the Campco for more than 5 years made way for S.R. Satishchandra.
The election of the President was unanimous as was the elections of all the Directors. It has been our tradition that directors and president are elected during the AGM, said the outgoing President to Indian Cooperative.
The elected President Satishchandra said the CAMPCO wanted to expand the market for its chocolate and other cocoa products. It had already initiated steps to market its chocolate products to the railways and defence forces.
The products of the CAMPCO should be made available to all people. He said he would strengthen the cooperative further by taking all the board members into confidence.
There were lengthy discussions at the annual general meeting on how to save the Dakshina Kannada, the South Kanara Agriculturist Cooperative Marketing Society Ltd. (SKACMS), from closing down due to heavy losses. Padmanabha said within the rules we would do our best. It was because of the mistakes of the SKACMS directors that it is bleeding today, he added.
As to what does he plan to do now Padmanabha said he is a social worker and would devote himself to social causes wherever he feels the need. I am also at the Education Fund Committee of NCUI but there is little to do there.
I am a government nominee there with hardly any power at my command to influence a decision, he added.
But I am national Vice-President of Sahakar Bharati and there are lots of works to be done there, he underlined.
