There are few co-operatives run by women and fewer still under the category of consumer co-operative! It is for this reason that those in the job need constant encouragement. Bhagyalakshmi Mahila Credit and Consumers’ Cooperative Society is one such entity.
Amreli based Bhagyalakshmi Mahila Credit and Consumers’ Cooperative Society is in the process of setting up an agro processing unit for adding value to the produce of farmers associated with the society.
Talking to Indian Cooperative, Bhavana Gondaliya, Chairman of the society said, “As Prime Minister Narendra Modi wants to double the income of farmers, we are in the process to set up an agro processing unit in our district.
This will help over 4000 farmers associated with the society. They will not only get the good price for their produce but also additional income, she underlined.
Besides, the society has decided to give a 15 percent dividend to its shareholders.
“We have also received the license for selling the fertilizers to the farmers and soon will start supplying the IFFCO urea and other products to the farmers at their doorstep”, Gondaliya added.
The Chairman of Bhagyalakshmi Mahila Credit and Consumers’ Cooperative Society expressed her gratitude towards the Gujarat veteran cooperator Dileep Sanghani. Sanghani has taken keen interest and helped us in situations of crisis, she underlined.
Thanking NCUI President Chandra Pal Sing Yadav also for his role in strengthening the cooperative movement in the country, Ms Gondaliya said it requires the right kind of ecosystem to grow.
Presently, the business of the society is over Rs 3 crore.
