We are in business because of Kurien: Vipul

GCMMF has registered an impressive growth this year. Growing at the rate of nearly 20 percent the owner of famed brand Amul has become a $ 3.2 billion cooperative.

Talking to Indian Cooperative, GCMMF Chairman Vipul Chaudhary gave credit of Amul growth story to the doyen of dairy cooperative Bargese Kurien. “He created a brand which stuck into peoples’ mind even when there was no such thing as television or internet”, he said.

Dedicating a huge part of his speech during the 39th AGM of GCMMF on Tuesday Vipul Chaudhary traced the struggle of Kurien in establishing the brand Amul. “We are in business today because of Kurien”, said Mr Chaudhary to Indian Cooperative on phone.

Explaining the substantial growth of the last year Vipul said that this is partly because GCMMF has gone national- a dream he shared with Indian Cooperative just after winning election last year.

“We have begun to procure milk from across various states of the country. We procure milk from Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, among others”, GCMMF Chairman explained.

“We have also gone national in terms of spread of our processing facilities to such locations as Mumbai, Delhi and even Kolkata”, Chaudhary added.

“GCMMF would endeavour to procure at the rate of 2 lakh litre of milk sooner than later. We also aim at touching the figure of Rs 18000 crore in terms of turn-over by next year”, a confident Chairman stated.

He thanked the farmers because of whom the vision of Kurien is fructifying. But he did not miss to thank the staffs of GCMMF whom he called equal partners in the success story of Amul.
