Mansinh Patel and Raju Pathak have been elected again as the Chairman and Vice-Chairman of Surat District Cooperative Milk Producers Limited (Sumul Dairy) respectively, in an election held today at its Surat headquarters.
Patel and his deputy have won the top posts again with the overwhelming support of the board of directors.
The elections for Sumul were held in 2020 for five years but according to the Gujarat State Cooperative Act Chairman and Vice-Chairman have to get elected midway–that is after every 2 and a half years.
Patel’s nomination was proposed by Sandeep Desai and supported by Bharat Singh Solanki whereas Pathak name was proposed by Nareshbhai Patel and supported by Shailesh Patel.
As soon as the names of the top office bearers were announced, their followers lost no time in greeting them.
Sumul has recently been in the news because of the termination of three top officials due to their alleged involvement in irregularities.
The annual turnover of Sumul Dairy is over Rs 4,500 crore with 2.50 lakh members who are cattle-rearers supplying milk to over 1,200 ‘mandli’ spread across Surat and Tapi districts.
Readers would recall that Sumul is also diversifying in other fields such as selling vegetables through its outlets spread across Surat and Tapi districts of Gujarat.
