Gujarat based Banas Dairy created a sort of history when it contributed to the PM Cares Fund an amount, usually not expected from a co-op of its size. The dairy unit which is a part of GCMMF contributed Rs 7.14 crore towards the PM Cares Fund.
Explaining one of the highest contributions from the cooperative sector to help the government fight coronavirus its Chairman Shankarbhai Chaudhary said “We thought of rising up to the expectation of our Prime Minister who had made an appeal to every Indian”.
Only other co-operative, perhaps ahead of Banas dairy in terms of contribution, is IFFCO which contributed Rs 25 crore to the PM Cares Fund.
Such was the zeal of co-operators connected with the dairy unit that over 2 lakh milk producer families of Banaskantha district associated with Banas dairy have contributed their milk income which added up to Rs 7.14 crore.
Sharing the contribution news through social media Dairy Chairman Shankarbhai Chaudhary wrote on his twitter wall, “Respected PM Shri @narendramodi Ji, Honouring your call, 207134 Milk Producer families of Banaskantha Dist associated with #BanasDairy hv contributed their milk income worth Rs 7.14 Cr towards #PMCARESFund. Banas Dairy is one of the milk unions associated with Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) which sells milk under the brand name of Amul.
It may bear recall that Parthibhai Bhatol, one of the Chairmen of GCMMF in the past and one who waged a fight to oust B M Vyas, MD of Amul, belonged originally to Banas Dairy only.
