Milk cooperatives would be set up in those areas of Tamil Nadu where there is none and milch cows, goats would be given free to poor people on Sept15, said Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa said on Saturday.
In a bid to enhance the quality of life of poorer section of the people, Tamil Nadu Government has proposed to give free milch cows and goats from September 15, Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa said on Saturday.
As per the poll promises made by her during the Assembly elections, in the first phase, Jayalalithaa would present 60,000 milch cows to 1,600 families in Tamil Nadu from
September 15, an official press release said in Chennai.
Among the beneficiaries, 30 per cent would constitute Adi-Dravidar community,it said and added a milk producers cooperative association would be set up in those places where there are no such associations.
The government would provide financial assistance in insuring the cows and also in transporting them from neighbouring states. A special identification mark would also
be provided to locate the milch cows easily, it said.
Similarly,goats aged between four to six months would also be given free to 1,600 Below Poverty line families beginning from September 15.
As per this scheme about seven lakh families would benefit in the next five years.Those families who have already received the milch cows would not be eligible for this scheme.
Suitable orders were issued to set up a state-level veterinary food crop development scheme for providing fodder to the cows and goats, the release added.
