A mega dairy co-op conclave was held in Assam at the initiative of NCDFI and WAMUL in Guwahati on Wednesday, in which Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma was the chief guest.
Hundreds of dairy farmers from the northeast participated in the conclave which was held at the Srimanta Sankardeva International Auditorium, Guwahati in the second half of the day.
Some of the noteworthy experts present on the occasion included Meenesh Shah, Chairman of NDDB, and Satish Marathe, RBI Board member. State Minister Atul Bora was also present on the occasion.
The event started with the welcome speech by the Chairman of NCDFI, Mangal Jit Rai, who spoke at length on the potential of the northeast in igniting the dairy co-op movement. On this occasion, a presentation on NCDFI and Cooperative Dairying was also made.
Soon after the event, Assam Chief Minister lost no time in sharing the details on social media. He wrote, “Aiming at increasing daily milk production in State to over a million liter, Govt of Assam signed an MoU with National Dairy Development Board (NDDB). Under the MoU, @NDDB_Coop will look after the managerial operations of East Assam Milk Producers’ Cooperative Union Ltd”.
“The MoU will benefit a huge number of milk farmers from eastern districts of Assam. A cattle feed plant at Changsari for production of nutritious, concentrated cattle feed has also been commissioned”, he further added.
Addressing the participants, Satish Marathe, Director of RBI said that this MoU will help in doubling the income of farmers through the dairy cooperative movement.
Welcoming the guests, Mangal Jit Rai, chairman of NCDFI wrote “Privileged to welcome you all our northeast dairy farmers to the North East Dairy Cooperative Conclave on 11/5/2022 at Guwahati.
Hon’ble CM of Assam will be gracing the program as the Chief Guest and Atul Bora, Satish Marathe, and Meenesh Shah will be the guests of honor.”
On the occasion, National Dairy Development Board also signed an MoU with Govt of Assam to manage EAMUL in the presence of the Assam Chief Minister and state minister.
The Chief Minister also inaugurated a Cattle Feed Plant & distributed biogas plants to beneficiaries. A vote of thanks was proposed by the Managing Director, WAMUL & Managing Director, NCDFI.
Social media users also reacted well to this development. One of the users said, ” This is positive news for new Assam. Development is a must for Assam”. “It will also increase the problem of non-milking old stray bovines. Please think about that too”, quipped another user.
