Mamata Banerjee government in West Bengal has ordered an inquiry into malpractices being indulged in by dairy companies in the state. In an unexpected way, the famous Gujarat dairy major Amul also figures in rogues’ gallery.
The West Bengal government said on Tuesday it is inquiring into allegations of malpractices by some private dairies, including Amul.
“We have received complaints against private dairies, including Amul. Once the complaints were identified, legal action would be taken,” Animal Resources Development department minister Noore Alam Chowdhury told the state assembly.
He, however, did not mention the nature of malpractices or irregularities.
West Bengal Animal Resources Development Minister has told the state assembly once the identification of exactly what the private dairy units are doing is completed, suitable legal actions would be initiated against them.
Sources say the news that the enquiry has already been ordered has caused consternation in the dairy circles of the states.
